Follow-up to Ryerson student Chris Avenir and use of Facebook

Remember this one? Student could be expelled for using Facebook! Chris Avenir, a student at Ryerson University was the admin for a Facebook study group which a professor claimed was used by students to cheat on assignments by posting answers. Big news months ago but what was the outcome?

According to this post from RyersonOnline, Ryerson University’s School of Journalism news portal, Chris Avenir was found guilty of academic misconduct and will not be expelled. Good news? Maybe but now that Chris’s academic charges have been dealt with, the entire process is being questioned. I’ll leave that to the lawyers to work out. From our perspective the questions this situation raises are related to the role an administrator of a Facebook page or any other online presence has and their accountability for the content.
